| The Memorials book starts with the Admiral. He is widely reported to have lived to old age, some sources accrediting him with living to over 100, but this is almost certainly a result of the confusion between different generations. | |||||||||||||||

| The consecutive generations of Andrews have caused much confusion to genealogists & historians. A site visitor (NW, 16.09.07) kindly drew our attention to www.clan-wood.org.uk which reports that Andrew (shown here as the 3rd laird) died in 1579 just before his father and that it was his son Andrew (shown here as the 4th laird) who was Sheriff of Fife and (in 1581-7) Comptroller of Scotland and d c1592 and that it was the latter's son, also called Andrew, who sold Largo in 1611. | |||||||||||||||

| The Memorials book appears not to mention this Andrew but indicates that the Wood who sold Largo was John. | Some web sites report that Sir Andrew had a daughter Jean who married James Drummond, 1st Lord of Madderty (Maderty). However, the Drummond records show that that James Drummond had no such marriage (he married Jean Chisholm). We think that there was confusion with Lord Maderty's daughter Jean who married Andrew's son. | |||||||||||||||
