The clan-wood web site suggests that "a scion of the Woods who acquired Bonnytoun in Angus" was ...
William Wood (b c1430)
m. (c1458) Helen Arnot
1. Sir Andrew Wood, 1st of Largo (b c1460, d c1515?, Admiral of Scotland)
The Memorials book starts with the Admiral. He is widely reported to have lived to old age, some sources accrediting him with living to over 100, but this is almost certainly a result of the confusion between different generations.
  m. Elizabeth Lundie (dau of John Lundy of that ilk)
  A. Andrew Wood, 2nd of Largo (d c1542/1579)
  m. Alison Hume
  i. Sir Andrew Wood, 3rd of Largo (d 1579/c1592/a 1597, comptroller of Scotland)
The consecutive generations of Andrews have caused much confusion to genealogists & historians. A site visitor (NW, 16.09.07) kindly drew our attention to www.clan-wood.org.uk which reports that Andrew (shown here as the 3rd laird) died in 1579 just before his father and that it was his son Andrew (shown here as the 4th laird) who was Sheriff of Fife and (in 1581-7) Comptroller of Scotland and d c1592 and that it was the latter's son, also called Andrew, who sold Largo in 1611.
  m1. Egidia Gourlay
  a. Andrew Wood, 4th of Largo (d c1592)
The Memorials book reports that, although an earlier source had reported that this Andrew married a Janet Balfour, Janet was actually the wife of James Wood of Lambelethame (below).
  m. (23.05.1606) Jean Drummond (dau of James Drummond, 1st Lord Maderty)
  (1) Andrew Wood, last of Largo (a burgess in Perth in 1632)
The Memorials book appears not to mention this Andrew but indicates that the Wood who sold Largo was John. The clan-wood web site reports that Andrew sold Largo in 1611, "having made provision for his brother John and his sisters" and provides the following information about his descendants.
  (A) Alexander Wood (d 1688, Rev.)
  (i) Robert Wood (Under Secretary of State for Scotland 1705-26)
  (ii) George Wood (dsp, Admiral)
  (iii) William Wood of Glasgow
  (a) John Wood, Governor of the Isle of Man (a 1766, dsp)
(b)+ other issue (dsp) - Andrew (rector), William
  (iv) Mark Wood
  (a) Alexander Wood of Burncroft, Perthshire (b 1712, d 1778, Colonel)
((1)) Sir Mark Wood of Gatton Park, 1st Bart, Surrey (d 1820)
The following comes from BEB1841 (in the Supplement, Wood of Gatton).
  m. Rachael Dashwood (dau of Robert Dashwood)
  ((A)) Sir Mark Wood, 2nd Bart (b 1794, dsp 1837)
  m. (1833) Elizabeth Newton (dau of William Newton)
  ((B))

Eliza Georgiana Wood

  ((C))

Rachael Wood

  m. (13.06.1816) William Joseph Lockwood of Dews Hall, Essex
((2)) Sir George Hay Wood of Ottershaw Park (Lt. General, 3rd son)
((A)) George Wood of Potter's Park had issue
((3))+ other issue - Sir James Atholl (Admiral), Andrew (dsp), Thomas (captain)
  (b)+ 2 sons and 5 daughters
(2)+ other issue - John (dsp 1661), Lilias, Isabella, Christian
  b. Jean Wood
Some web sites report that Sir Andrew had a daughter Jean who married James Drummond, 1st Lord of Madderty (Maderty). However, the Drummond records show that that James Drummond had no such marriage (he married Jean Chisholm). We think that there was confusion with Lord Maderty's daughter Jean who married Andrew's son.
  c. Elizabeth Wood probably of this generation
--
  m. Sir William Bruce, 4th of Earlshall (d 1636)
--
m2. (13.10.1580) Elizabeth Lundie (dau of William Lundie of that ilk)
This marriage is not mentioned by the Memorials book but is given in the Lundie source. Noting that this was Elizabeth's 1st marriage (of two), it is a presumption that this was this Andrew's 2nd marriage and that she was not mother of any of Andrew's children.
  B. Alexander Wood of Grange
  partner unknown
  i. Robert Wood (a 1572, dspms?)
C. ? John Wood of Tillydoun (a 1562, Senator of the College of Justice)
This John is mentioned in the Memorials book but not in the section given in the Pedigree.
  i. William Wood
  D. James Wood of Ballingall, later of Lambelethame, Caringour & Newmylne (d c1596, youngest son)
  m. Janet Balfour
  i. Alexander Wood of Lambelethame and Newmylne, later also of Grange
  a. James Wood of Lambelethame and Grange (a 1630)
  (1) James Wood (a 1649)
  ii. William Wood
2. Katharine Wood
--
  m. Alexander de Spens (3rd) of Lathallan (d 1466)
--
3.+ other issue - John, Robert
