i. Alexander Fergusson of Craigdarroch (b 1685, a 1717) possibly of this generation
  m. Anne Laurie (dau of Sir Robert Laurie of Maxweltoun)
Apart from mention of some 15th century lairds, Alexander was the first laird specifically identified by BLG1886 which reported that he was "direct ancestor" of the 19th century lairds. Such phraseology may often be interpreted as implying that there is doubt on successive generations, probably with the connection to later lairds coming through a younger son. We provisionally presume that his sons were as follows:
  a. Robert Fergusson of Craigdarroch possibly of this generation
  m. Clementina Douglas (dau of James Douglas of Dornock)
BP1934 (Stuart-Menteth) shows that Philadelphia, dau of Robert, was mother of Ludivina. BP1934 (Queensberry) confirms that Clementina, Robert's wife, was grandmother of Ludivina.

  (A) Alexander Fergusson of Craigdarroch
BE1886 provides later generations starting with the following Robert, son of Alexander. It is interesting to note that, whereas his father must have married young, Robert married relatively late in life.
  (i) Robert Cutlar Fergusson of Craigdarroch (b 1769, d 16.11.1838) had issue
