| We have in the past come across a book (in a library) that covers the early generations of various Middleton (Mydelton, Midelton, etc) families. That book will be revisited in due course. It was in anticipation of such a visit that we labelled the pages MiddletonXX (on the Myddeltons of Chirk Castle and those of Ruthyn) and MiddletonXY (on the Mideltons of Stockeld) rather than the more normal Middleton01, 02, etc. The following is given to provide a record of what we have found elsewhere on those early generations, hoping to agree or otherwise reconcile it with that book in due course. However, not least because there are several villages/towns called Middleton, we think it unlikely that all of the Middleton families came from the same root. | |||||||||||||||

| Visitation follows the line of Sir Peter's younger brother William. The following connection is wholly presumptuous. It is thought by some that the undermentioned Middletons of Middleton Hall and those of Leighton were connected to the Mideltons of Stockeld. However, this has not been proved and, as reported above, there were several places called Middleton which may have given rise to different families of that name. We presume to show (temporarily at least) that Sir Peter was father (could be grandfather) of the following Thomas who was the first mentioned by BEB1841. | |||||||||||||||
