The Salkelds of Whitehall are reported as being descended from a younger son of the Corby branch who settled at Gowbarrow. Possibly of this generation was the following Richard who is the first named in Visitation (Cumberland, 1615, Salkeld) which provides the bulk of the following. Note that Visitation does not designate any of this family as being of Whitehall although cross-references to individuals make it clear that it was. Similarly, Visitation identifies only Launcelot (who married Margaret Hodleston) and his father as being of Gawbarrow or Garbarrow. We (provisionally) add the designations. |
