John & Alice were identified as parents of the following John in VCH (Lancashire, vol 5, Townships: Breightmet) which mentions that there are pedigrees of this family in Ormerod, Ches. (ed. Helsby), iii, 714, and Earwaker, East Ches. ii, 363. We have yet to see either of those pedigrees but hope to in due course.

This family name is spelt variously as Levesey (as used by the Visitation), Livesey (as used by BEB1841), Livesay, etc.., having taken its name from a village/hamlet of that name in Lancashire. We use 'Livesey' for most of this record as that appears to be the spelling which is still in use in Lancashire.

Sir Michael "sided with the parliament in the troubled times in which he lived, acted as one of the king's judges, and signed the death warrant of the ill-fated Charles. He died before the Reformation, nevertheless immediately after that event, an act of parliamend passed, for his attainder and the forfeiture of all his lands ...
