| 2. | William de Vere of Great Addington | ||||||||||||||
| TCP (vol X, appendix J) identifies William as ancestor of the Veres of Great Addington. The IGI appears to be one of several web sites that have followed the lead of BE1883 (Vere of Oxford) that suggests that the first Vere of Great Addington was Sir Henry, 2nd son of Robert, 3rd Earl of Oxford. BE1883 goes on to report that that Sir Henry was father of Sir Robert, father of Richard who married Isabel, dau/heiress of Richard Greene of Drayton. However, that appears to be missing out several generations (possibly because it reported the gap in the wrong place, suggesting that there were some generations between the Richard who married Isabel Greene and the Sir Henry who married Isabel Tresham rather than between Sir Robert and Richard). We provisionally follow what, according to information kindly brought to our attention by a site visitor (RS, 14/5.03.06), is amongst the sometimes contradictory information reported by the IGI except to show the above-mentioned Sir Henry as of the next generation. | |||||||||||||||
