Both Visitation and FMG start with the husband of Elizabeth Leek, Visitation identifying him as Richard but FMG naming him Thomas. Visitation then shows 2 generations of Thomases before the Richard who married Lora Brookman. FMG shows that Richard as son of (Thomas) and Elizabeth Leek. We provisionally follow Visitation.

The early generations in this section come from Visitation, the later ones from Commoners, with (as noted below) it being presumed that they were connected. Commoners introduces its article on the family with a note that indicates that it was connected to the line shown in the section above. It claims "to be descended from Wyamarus Whalley, who accompanied William the Conqueror from Normandy, and was the standard bearer at the battle of Hastings."
