Families covered: Beaton of Creich, Beaton (Beton) of Nether Rires
[A look at this page on 07.07.17 showed that the sole Main Source then reported below, 'Fife (P&H)', does not support much of what is actually shown below. This suggested that somehow the main 'Main Source' was deleted from below. A review of the page on 30.07.17 found that Wood's 'East Neuk of Fife' does support this page (apart from some dates and a few other details) but it is clear that it was not the original main source. We hope to find that other source and report it below (again) in due course!]

  A. David Beaton of Creich & Nether Rires (b 1519, d unm 1539, 2nd son)
Wood shows that David succeeded his father. Our earlier main source must have shown that he did not as it numbered David's brother Robert as the 3rd laird, his son David as the 4th, etc.. Consequent to this contradiction, we have removed those numberings. There may be inconsistencies in cross-references with the numberings of later lairds.
  B. Robert Beaton of Creich & Nether Rires (b 1520, d by 1567)
Wood identifies Robert's wife as Joanna Renwall or Gryssoner. 'Fife (P&H)' reports that "She is variously named Gryssoner, Grismore, and Renwall." It appears that the original source named her ...

Wood, which provides most of this generation, reports that either Helen or Eupham or another daughter m1. laird of Fullerton, m2. Erskine of Dun. The Erskine records show an Ann Beaton "probably of the Creich family" who married Sir Alexander Erskine after 03.1635 but before 1640. Noting that this lady had a sister called Anna who died before 1635, we presume that it was in fact probably either Helen or Eupham who married ...
