Visitation (Cheshire, 1580, Manwaringe of Peever) suggests an alternative parentage for the following Hugh, indicating that he may have been an illegitimate son of William Mainwaring of Peever by Emm Farrington, but goes on to give precedence to the connection we follow. Visitation (Cheshire, 1613, Mainwaring of Croxton) does not mention Hugh's parentage which might indicate some continuing uncertainty. Ormerod (Cheshire, vol 3, 'Croxton and Mainwaring of Croxton', p114) reports that Hugh was "base sone of Randle Mainwaring of Peover" by ...
