Laurence Oliphant (d Flodden 09.09.1513, Abbott of Inchaffray (Machaffray))
TCB reports that the undermentioned Thomas was "traditionally said to have been descended from Lawrence, Abbot of Machaffray, who fell at Flodden". The undermentioned note with TCP iddntifies the undermentinoed Patrick of Bachilton (d 09.1729) as "possibly a descendant of a bastard s. of Laurence Oliphant, Abbot of Inchaffray (s. of the 1st Lord) , who was slain at Flodden".

  TCB reports that Laurence "was ancestor of the Oliphants of Bachilton, and whose male line failed in 1770, the heir of line being Lord Elibank."

  TSP (vol 6, 'Oliphant', p562) reports that the David who assumed the title of Lord Oliphant (see below) was 5th in descent from Thomas of Freeland. The following comes from a note on TCP (vol X, 'Oliphant', p59+).
