THE MAULE AND KEMPSTON ANCESTORY OF
MARGARET FINLAYSON AND OTHERS
Thomas Maule was Joint Surveyor
General of Taxes in Ireland with Charles Monck (ancestor of Lord Visct. Monck)
under patent, dated 13th Dec 1627;
he was M.P. for Carysfort in the Parliament of Ireland; buried in St.
Worburgh's, Dublin, 17 Feb 1671-2. He m. Lettice, da. of William Crow, of
Crowsnest, near Dublin, and had, with other children, a da. Grace Maule (will
pro. in Dublin 1723), who m. Nicholas Kempston of Dunmurray, Co. Cavan, Colonel
in Cromwell's army; buried in Saint Michan's Dublin, 27 Mar 1676; will pro. in
Dublin 1676, and had two children, Col John Kempston, of whom presently; and
Elinor Kempston, who m. Thomas Acton of Kilmacurragh, Co. Wicklow – (see
Burke's L.G.).
Col. John Kempston m. Deborah, da. of
Sir Henry Piers, Bart., of Tristernagh Abbey, Co. Westmeath – (see Burke's
Peerage), and had with other children a son, John Kempston, who was in Holy
Orders. The latter m. and had a da.
Alicia Kempston, b. 1749, of whom there is a portrait in the possession of her
descendant, Visct. Northcliffe (p.61).
She married Mr. Turpin and had four daus. :-
(1) Susan Turpin, of whom presently;
(2) Mary Turpin, who m. Charles La Grange and
had several children; (3) Ellen Turpin (ob. s.p.);
(4) Caroline Turpin, who m. John Warren.
Susan Turpin, b. 1774, m. John
Finlayson of Dublin and had the following children;-

John Finlayson, M.A., Trin. Coll., Dublin; in Holy Orders; Prebendary of St.
Michael's , Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin; b. 1810 ob. 1882); m. 1844 Eliza
(ob. 1900, aged 91); da. of Duncan Fraser, Esq., and had a da. Janet Elizabeth Finlayson,
b. 1847; m. 1875 James Emerson Reynolds, M.A., F.R.S., formerly Professor of
Chemistry Trin. Coll., Dublin (ob. 18 Feb 1920) and had two children, John Alfred Emerson Reynolds, b. 1880, and
Marion Janet Elizabeth Reynolds. The
latter m. Alec. Fraser, M.B., and has three sons, William Fraser (b. 1904),
Alan Fraser (b. 1909), and Douglas
Fraser (b. 1916);
