Patrick Acheson of Edinburgh (Captain)
1. Sir Archibald Acheson of Market Hill, 1st Bart of Glencairney, Co. Armagh (d 09.09.1634, Secretary of State for Scotland, to Ireland)
BP1934 identifies Sir Archibald as "of Gosford". Lodge starts with him, reporting that he "descended from a good family in Scotland", and states that he "was seated at Gosford in the shire of Haddington, previous to his settlememt in Ireland, where we find him in 1610". However, as shown on the continuation, it was his uncle & cousin who were "of Gosford" although perhaps Archibald lived there also when young. Lodge also confuses the issue by showing Archibald as m1. Margaret Hamilton (dau of George) m2. Margaret (possibly a Semple). We ignore that.

Some sources, including Brydges's 1812 revision of Collins's 'Peerage of England' (vol II, 'Abercorn'), show Sir Archibald's 2nd wife Margaret as daughter of Sir George Hamilton of Greenlaw & Rosecrea. We follow BP1934, supported by TSP ('Abercorn') & TCB, in identifying her as daughter of Sir George's brother Sir John.
