Families covered: Becher of Fotheringay, Becher of Howbury (Howberry), Becher of Penshurst
BIFR1976 reports that "The Bechers were settled in W Kent throughout the 15th and 16th cents ... Several of the family were citizens and drapers of London".

Visitation starts with this Henry, identifying him as of Bishops Morchard, Devon, and as youngest of 11 sons but as "heire to all their lands w(hich) they had in gauel kind in Kent". Visitation identifies his wife as a daughter of Sir Nicholas Heron of Edgecombe but BIFR1976 identifies her as ...

(1) | Sir William Becher of Fotheringay & Howberry (Howbury) (b 24.04.1628, d 05.10.1694)
BIFR1976 identifies Sir William's wives and reports that he had issue by both but does not name any of their children. Visitation ends with this generation, noting that William was about 6 years old in 1634. The children/grandchildren shown here come from George Marshall's 1873 edition of Peter Le Neve's 'Pedigrees of the Knights' (p 118).

(i) | son (b 1698?, a 1700)
Le Neve reports that Mary Dennis "dyed in childbed" but shows that she was mother of a son, living 1700.
Le Neve shows that William's 2nd wife (m 1699) was a dau of Sir Francis Clark of Launde Abbey but does not show any children by her. Without mentioning an earlier wife, VCH (Bedfordshire, vol 3, Parishes: Renhold) reports that William married "Jane Clarke of Watford" (which is supported by the Clerke cross-reference) and mentions a John Becher of Renhold (a 1769) as probably a younger son of William. If so then it is likely that he was son by Jane.
