Families covered: Bradshaw of Bradshaw, Bradshaw of Lum, Bradshaw of Wendover

St. George shows a number of Bradshawes of earlier generations but, whilst they identify a few connections between certain individuals, they do not provide any real help. St. George identifies the arms of this family as "Argent, two bends, sable". Dugdale identifies them as "Argent, two bendlets, sable".

  b. Thomas Bradshaw of Wolstenholme, Lancashire
Dugdale shows Thomas as the 6th son. We have been advised by a contributor (CV, 09.05.09) that the Thomas who is mentioned in VCH (Lancshire, vol 5, Townships : Tottington) as 'of Bradshaw' was the 7th son of a John of Bradshaw. We suspect that he was this Thomas who was (therefore) husband of ...

William Bradshaw of Wendover, Buckinghamshire (d 04.10.1537)
That William was possibly/probably father of Henry (Chief Baron of the Exchequer) is given in VCH. The Wendover article notes that there was a brass in Wendover church which listed his 9 children and 23 grandchildren. Sadly, that brass was stolen in 1978. Fortunately, a rubbing of it has been reproduced on Lipscomb (Bucks, vol 2, p491). Thanks to a contributor (DCS, 17.10.15) for drawing our attention to these connections and to an archived Gen-Medieval article (which appears to have since been moved) which identified a possible parentage for William and suggests that his wife was ...

  A. Benedict Bradshaw of Bradshaw's Manor (d 1553-4) mentioned by the brass
  B. Christiane Bradshaw (d 1557) not mentioned by the brass
  m. Thomas Winchcombe (d 1574)
  C. Bridget Bradshaw (d 1578) not mentioned by the brass
  m1. Henry White
m2. Thomas Fermor of Somerton (son of Richard of Easton Neston)
D.+ other issue (d young?) - Mau' (Maude or Matthew?), Alice mentioned by the brass
That there are some differences between the names mentioned by the brass and the names given by other sources is not a major problem given that some of the children may have been born after 1537 and/or some of the children may have died young and so not have been recorded in all sources.
2. John Bradshaw
A.+ issue - Elizabeth, Edward, Margery, William, Alice, Bridget, Henry, Arthur
3. Agnes Bradshaw
The above-mentioned brass does not name the spouses of any of the children. It shows that Agnes had the following children which differs slightly from the continuation: Briget, Alice, William, Henry, Briget. The above-mentioned archived Gen-Medieval article identified Agnes as probable wife of ...
