(1) William Burnell (d 1282)
  (2) Robert Burnell, Bishop of Bath and Wells, Chancellor (d 1292)
TCP, which starts with Sir Philip, father of Lord Edward, confirms that Philip inherited lands from his wealthy uncle, Robert Burnell, Bishop of Bath and Wells, and Chancellor. BE1883 mentions that powerful prelate as Philip's uncle but also implies that there was another uncle called Robert who held the manor of Acton Burnell and drowned in 1282. It is not clear whether or not there were two brothers both called Robert.
