It appears that, between 1886 and 1952, additonal research into this family changed the view on its early generations. We show what we have found on those earlier reports so as to identify the connections between various branches of the family as had previously been considered. However, we provide connections to the later generations in accordance with what was reported in BLG1952 (rather than BLG1886 or the Visitations).

Visitation (Nottinghamshire, 1569-1614) shows an additional generation here, another William (it being the younger who married Frances Peckham), with the record noting that he was omitted in another manuscript. We provisionally follow BGL1886 which shows just the one generation of Williams.

Both BLG1886 (Cartwright of Aynhoe) and BLG1952 (Cartwright of Aynhoe) start with Rowland but, whereas BLG1886 reports that he was 2nd son of Hugh and brother of the above William, BLG1952 implies doubt on that connection, reporting only that Rowland is "thought to have been akin" to the Cartwrights of Marnham. See the note at the top of this page.
