Much of the following was first uploaded on 02.06.24 as a section of a temporary page. It was moved here following review & expansion.
John Davy or Davys of (Chicksgrove in) Tisbury, Wiltshire (a 1517, 1541, d before 1570)
m. Matilda (bur 18.05.1570) widow of John, presumed mother of ...
1. John Davys of Tisbury (a 1517, d 1580)
  m. Mary Bennett (dau of John Bennett of Pythouse)
A. Edward Davys or Davies of Chicksgrove (bpt 06.12.1566, d 1625, tanner)
  m. (1599) Joan Cave (dau of Robert Cave of Gillingham)
The following comes from 'Wilts' (vol 4 (1829), 'Pedigree of Bowles and Davies, p36/321) with some input from HoP ("Matthew Davies").
  i. Matthew Davies of Chicksgrove & Shaftesbury (bpt 02.04.1595, d by 26.11.1678, MP, of the Middle Temple)
  m. Anne Mervyn (bur 09.11.1657, dau of Edmund Mervyn of Fonthill Gifford)
  a. John Davies (a 1667)
  b. Catherine Davies (d 1705)
  m. Robert Frampton (d 1683, rector of Donhead St. Andrew)
  c. Anne Davies (d 1717)
  m. William Bowles, later of Shaftesbury (b 16.09.1624, d 1717)
d. daughter
  B. Matthew Davys (a 1607, d unm, Vicar of Writtle)
  C. Sir John Davys or Davies, later of Englefield (Berkshire) (bpt 16.04.1569, d 07.12.1626, MP, Speaker of the House of Commons, Attorney General for Ireland)
Some cross-references to Sir John suggest that he was Lord Chancellor of Ireland but this appears to be confusion with his role as Attorney General for Ireland.
  m. Eleanor Tuchet (d 05.07.1652, dau of George Tuchet, Baron Audley, later 1st Earl of Castlehaven)
'Wilts' shows that, apart from Lucy, John & Eleanor had 1 son who d young. HoP ("John Davies") reports that they had 2 sons, one (d infant) whilst the other dvp with no indication that he had married or had children, Lucy being identified as their heir. 'History of the Munros of Fowlis' (Alexander Mackenzie, 1898, p293) indicates that one of their sons had a daughter, as shown in italics below, but we suspect that that is wrong. HoP indicates that here has been confusion between different John Davys/Davieses of this period.
  i. son (d infant)
ii. Sir John Davis of Whitehall possibly fits here
  a. Mary Davis
  m. David Monro of Allan (b 1640, Captain)
  iii. Lucy Davies
  m. (07.08.1623) Ferdinando Hastings, 6th Earl of Huntingdon
  D. Mary Davies probably of this generation
  m. (1591) Thomas Combe of Chicksgrove in Tisbury (bpt 21.08.1570, bur 26.09.1593)
2. Robert Davys (a 1517, 1541)

Main source(s): Wilts' (vol 4 (1829), p136/164) with input as reported above
