BLG1879 reports that "The family of De la Cherois descends from the younger branch of an ancient and noble house in France, formerly resident at Cheroy or Cherois, a small town near Sens, int he provence of Champagne, whence the family name is derived." They fled from France, initially to Holland in 1685, following the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes that year.
