Commoners identifies the arms of the following family as "Per chev. embattled or, and az. three martlets counterchanged". Commoners mentions that a Sir John Hodgson was Bailiff then Mayor of Newcastle in the 1270s-1280s and that his son, Richard, was also a Bailiff in the 1280s. Commoners then reports that "it is believed that both the line we are about to follow, and that of the Hodgsons of Hebburn, which at one period spread into so many branches, all now extinct, over the counties of Northumberland and Durham, sprung from this source." Commoners starts its connected pedigree with the mother of Thomas whom we show as married to ...
