Visitation (Dorset, 1677, Appendix II, 'Borough of Newland and Castleton', p94) mentions that Dr. Nathaniel Highmore, who was probably the following Nathaniel, was son of Nathaniel, Rector of Purse Caundle. It also notes that "They were descended from the Highmore of Harbybrow, co. Cumberland, who bore "Argent, a cross-bow pointed upwards between 4 moor-cocks sable, membered and beaked gules".
