Both BLG1879 & BLGI1912 report that "The descent of the family from a remote period is very fully given in MacFirbis' "Genealogies" ...". We have looked at that book (online) and not found any such pedigree. However, we have found reference to that work in 'Irish Pedigrees' (John O'Hart, 1892 (5th edition), vol 2, "Joyce (No. 1), Of Joyce's Country, County Galway", p261+), which is most probably relevant to the following family, but we have yet to connect the following to that pedigree. O'Hart reports that MacFirbis traces "the descent of this family from a King of Britain. Other genealogists assert that Joyce and Joy are of Anglo-Norman descent, amd were originally called De Jorse." O'Hart starts his pedigree, which continues to the late 19th century, with Thomas de Jorse who came to Ireland in/just after 1282. Should we find a connection between that pedigree and anywhere else in this database, we will show O'Hart's pedigree here. Meanwhile, we start with BLG1879 & BLGI1912 which start with ...
