| (1) MacFarlane shows this Andrew as having died in May 1538 with the Andrew whom we show as having died in that month as son rather than brother of the William below who died at Flodden. We follow ER and MacGregor, the latter reporting that his grandson Andrew's succession was recognised on 05.05.1514. (2) The marriage to Agnes Wemyss is not mentioned by either MacFarlane or ER but is by MacGregor, supported by cross-reference from the Wemyss records. However, MacGregor gives different dates for the marriages and so shows the first 2 in a different order (m1. (mcrt 13.04.1482) Agnes Wemyss m2. (c1487) Janet Clephane m3. (by 23.03.1501) Elizabeth Halkett). Provisonally, we follow the order of marriages we had drafted before we used MacGregor's work. (3) Our attribution of Andrew's children between his wives follows MacGregor although, as he does not show which of the earlier children was by Janet or Agnes, we presume that all of Andrew's children before his 3rd marriage were (as suggested by ER) by Janet Clephane. |
