Families covered: Knyvett (Knyvet or Knevet or Knevitt) of Buckenham, Knyvett (Knevet) of Southwick

BEB1841 reports that "Camden makes this name a corruption of Dunevit, and Leland derives it from Dunnevit, a town in Cornwall, on the river Tamar. The family claimed Danish extraction." CountyGen starts with ...
Otomar Knevet
BEB1841 reports that "Othomarus de Knyvet, lord of the castle and borough of Launceston, is stated to have been ousted of his possessions at the Conquest, for having taken up arms against the Conqueror, but intermarrying with Emme, daughter of William Dammartin, a Norman, obtained restoration. From Othomarus, after four descents, sprang Sir John de Knevit, Lord of Southwick, who was great-grandfather of another Sir John Knevit, whose son and heir" was the Richard who m. Joan Wourch. We show the intervening generations which are taken from CountyGen (partly supported by Vivian) but, noting that they contain more generations than we think is likely to be correct, we suggest that the whole of this upper section be viewed with caution.
