As indicated below, work has been done over the years, not least by Colonel Henry Edmonstone Medlicott ("H.E.M."), to resolve the confusion between different members of this family. We must admit that we have not studied H.E.M.'s work in great depth, so there may be clues within his work to help clarify matters even more, but it appears to us that, whilst he has resolved some issues, he has not been able to resolve others. We may in due course review this family again but, for the moment, the following is our attempt to make sense of conflicting information.
Thomas Medlicott of Longden in Pontesbury, Salop (bur 10.02.1550-1)
m. Joan
1. Richard Medlicott of Pontesbury (bur 20.05.1603)
BP2003 starts with this Richard, supporting BIFR1976 in showing him as father of Thomas by Anne Wilcocks. However, BP1934 (Medlycott), which also starts with the generation before the Thomas who m. Leonard Pluck, shows his parents as Thomas of Pontesbury & Elizabeth Scrinor.
  m. Anne Wilcocks (d 11.1606, dau of Richard Wilcocks of Pontesbury)
  A. Thomas Medlicott of Pontesbury & London (d 03.1623)
There has clearly been confusion between different Thomases (and Jameses?) of this family. Visitation (London, 1634, Medlicott) shows that the Thomas who m. Lennard Pluck was son of an unnamed Medlicott of Ponsbury (sic) and father of both Thomas of Southwark (eldest son) and James of London (a 1634) who m. Eliza Joyner and was father of Thomas (b 1627-8). BIFR1976 neither names this Thomas's wife nor designates him as being 'of' anywhere but just notes that he d 1623 and was father of Thomas of Abingdon whose 3rd son was Thomas of Binfield then Dublin. BIFR1976 follows the line of this Thomas (d 1623)'s brother James but confuses the issue by indicating that this Thomas's son Thomas of Abingdon was father not only of a 3rd son (Thomas of Binfield then Dublin) but also of the ancestor of the Medlycott baronets. Provisionally, we follow BLG1886 which starts with Thomas of Abingdon (bpt 09.03.1627), showing him as father of James (ancestor of the Medlycott baronets) Charles of Cottingham, Edmund, George of Tully & Thomas of Binfield then London.
  m. (27.06.1593) Lennard or Leonard Pluck (d 1618, dau of James Pluck of London)
  i. Thomas Medlicott of Southwark (a 1634)
As mentioned above, BIFR1976 identifies this as Thomas as the Thomas of Abingdon whose 3rd son was Thomas of Binfield then Dublin.
ii. James Medlicott of London (b 05.07.1596, d 01.1663, dyer)
  m. Elizabeth Joyner (d 1674, dau of Edmund Joyner of Newbury)
a. Thomas Medlicott of Abingdon (b 25.02.1627/8, d 13.12.1716, recorder of Abingdon, MP)
  m. Anne Whickers (dau of John Whickers of London)
  (1) James Medlicott of Ven House, Milborne Port (b 1658, d 12.05.1731) this line followed by BP2003
  m. (03.07.1695) Anne Howard of London (d 05.1758)
  (A) Thomas Medlicott of Ven House (bpt 22.10.1697, d 24.07.1763, MP)

  (5) Thomas Medlicott or Medlycott of Binfield, (Berkshire), later of Dublin (bpt 22.05.1662, MP)
BLG1886 shows that Thomas m. "Margaret Bradstone, widow, of Pakenham" and had daughter Anne plus son Thomas John. BIFR1976 shows Margaret Bradstone was 2nd wife of Ossory Medlicott (see below) and shows that Thomas had the following family. Note that BIFR1976 shows this Thomas as 3rd son rather than grand-nephew of the Thomas who is shown above as 'of Southwark'.

George Medlicott of Tully, Youngstown & Dunmurry, co. Kildare (b 15.13.1649, d 26.06.1717) - continued above or possibly here
BIFR1976 (Medlicott) shows this George as "probably" son of James of Stockwell by Frances Culpeper, just above. However, given the dates provided by BIFR1976, that seems odd because it would mean that George was born some 23 years after his parents' marriage. BLG1886 shows him as 4th son of Thomas of Abington which is supported by the identification of Elizabeth's husband in BIFR1976 (Bagot). As far as we can tell, having only partly reviewed his work, H.E.M. makes no definitive claim as to George's parentage. As BLG1886 had started just the generation before George, and had not identified George's mother, whilst BIFR1976 appears to have benefited from the work (dated 1938) by H.E.M., we presume that BIFR1976 is more reliable than BLG1886 for these later generations.
m. (22.06.1672) Elizabeth Bagot (d 29.12.1725, dau of Edward Bagot of Harristown)
1. James Medlicott of Dunmurry & Luggeshill (b 09.09.1674)
BLG1886 shows this James also m. Elizabeth Bagot. BIFR1976 follows H.E.M. in identifying her as ...
  m. (26.11.1695) Mary Banks
  A. James Medlicott of Ardscull & Youngstown, Sheriff of co. Kildare (b 17.11.1697, d unm 25.12.1771)
Unlike BLG1886, which shows him below, BIFR1976 shows that this was the James who assigned his estates to Charles Dowling of Redhills who then adopted the name Medlicott. H.E.M. reports that some sources suggest that Charles Dowling was a son of his sister Mary but also reports Glascott as writing: "I was always under the impression that Charles Dowling was no relation of the Family at all."
