Families covered: Monoux of Sandy, Monoux of Stanford, Monoux of Walthamstow, Monoux of Wootton (Wotton)

(1) BEB1841 spells the name of this family initially as Monox and then as Monnoux. TCB (vol iii) entitles its article on the baronets as "Monoux, Monnoux or Monnox". We follow Visitation which uses "Monoux" throughout.
(2) There is some contradiction & confusion with the first few generations reported by our sources. BEB1841 starts with John of Stanford, father of Richard, father of Lord Mayor George & Richard, the latter being father of Richard father of Humphrey & Thomas who was father of the George who married Elizabeth Mordaunt. Visitation (1558) contains 2 contradictory descents from John of Stanford to Lord Mayor George, one showing him as John's son and the other as John's great-grandson, the former being supported by Visitation (1612). The following follows Visitation (1612).
