TCB reports that John's son/heir, the 1st Bart, was "by the last of his many wives", Margaret Collace. In a note, TCB mentions 1 apparently definite and 2 possible ("said to have been") other wives.

  TCB reports that "The holding of this Baronetcy from 1701 to 1784 is uncertain." The next reported is the under-mentioned Robert "presumably son or nephew" of the 4th Bart. Robert was served in 1784 "heir male and of line general to his grandfather, Sir John Preston, Baronet of Airdrie". Provisionally we show him as nephew of the 4th Bart.
