We suspect that this was the Richard "of Bawton in co: Suff:" who is shown by Visitation (Suffolk, 1664-8, Smith of Thrandeston) as father of Richard by the following Elizabeth. Visitation (Suffolk, 1664-8, Smith of Haughley) starts with the following Thomas whom we presume to have been Richard's elder son. Unfortunately, Visitation (Suffolk, 1612) does not cover this branch.
