  The following is partly supported by BHO ('The History and Topographical Survey of the County of Kent', Volume 9 (1800), 'Parishes: Kingston') & Commoners (vol 3, 'Taylor of Bifrons', p108). For some reason we have not yet been able to identify, Thomas assumed the name Payler shortly after the death (in 1705) of Sir Watkinson Payler, Bart of Thoralby.
