This page is still being researched. It has NOT yet been launched formally into the Database but is shown here TEMPORARILY (albeit for an uncertain length of time pending further research), partly to record connections that we fear we might otherwise lose sight of and partly in the hope that one or more visitors to the site will contribute information that will enable us to develop our information on the families covered in this page to a standard that would support release of a dedicated page in the Database.

Sir Francis Berkeley (of Askeyton or Askeaton?)
Sir Francis is shown by Visitation (Somersetshire, 1623, Berkley) without designation as to where he lived. However, he is identified there as 2nd son of Sir Maurice of Bruton and as father of Morice ("living in Ireland"). A contributor (JS, 28.09.07) suggests that, although this requires proof, this was probably the Sir Francis of Askeaton who (according to Collins's 'Peerage of England') had the following family. It is noted that Askeaton is in co. Limerick.

This section first uploaded 21.07.08, amended 05.09.08. Although we may not be consistent elsewhere in the database, we use "Inverleith" instead of "Innerleith" as the name of this family's estate as that appears to be the modern spelling of what is now a suburb in North Edinburgh. We are less confident on how to spell the family name which appears to have varied between Rocheid and Rochead. |
