There has clearly been much confusion between the following John and Simon (shown below) who may or may not have been brothers. BE1883 (Brydges of Chandos) mentions both, reporting that John had an only dau/heir Joan (m. Sir John Baskervile of Erdisley) and that his younger brother Simon (of the Leys) "left a numerous posterity" including Sir John, Lord Mayor of London in 1520-1. [Visitation (Herefordshire, 1569, Baskervile) identifies the wife of Sir John Baskervile as a "doughter to Symon abruges". For that connection, see below.] Collins mentions only John, identifying him as ancestor of Lord Mayor Sir John. Visitation (Essex, 1558, Bridges/Bruges) shows both with Simon (older than John) as ancestor of the Lord Mayor but Visitation (Essex, 1612, Bridges/Bruges) omits Simon and shows John as ancestor of the Lord Mayor. Visitation (Gloucestershire, 1623 (Miscellaneous), Bridges) & Visitation (Worcestershire, 1569, BRidges) both show both John & Simon with John being the elder and ancestor of the Lord Mayor. Provisionally, we follow that last approach.

  m. _ Hanborne (dau/heir of _ Hanborne by _ Bodnam)
  A. Simon Bridges of Lee
  m. _ Walwyn
We suspect that there has been confusion between the generations for some sources report the following James to be son of Simon (by _ Walwyn) several generations earlier. Visitation (Gloucestershire, 1623 (Miscellaneous), Bridges) shows them twice, some generations apart. Provisionally, we set James as of the next generation. The following is supported by Visitation (Gloucestershire, 1623, Bridges (MS 1041)) & Visitation (Herefordshire, 1569, Bridges).
