BLG1894 reports that "This famiy takes its surname, which was anciently written, Myrehouse and Myrehowse, from the "hlouse" of the mere or lake, and resided at Myresyke. It claims to be Saxon, and the Myresyke estate is stated to have been in the possession of the family from the time of Edward the Confessor" (who r. 1042-1066).
