A. Sir Hildebrand Oakes, 1st Bart (b 19.01.1754, d unm 09.09.1822, Lt. General, CIC Malta)
Sir Hildebrand's Baronetcy was subject to 2 patents, the 1st expiring on his death without male issue, the 2nd enabling the title to pass to his brother Henry and then Henry's male issue. BP1895 reports that Sir Hildebrand (GCB) did not marry whilst BEB1841 ('Oakes'), which covers the 1st patent of the baronetcy (which expired), reports that Sir Hildebrand had no issue. BLG1952 ('Wildman-Lushington formerly of Norton Court') identifies Antonia as "only dau. of Lieut.-Gen. Sir Hildebrand Oakes, G.C.B." and refers to Burke's Extinct Baronetcies, thereby making it clear that its editor had definitely (rightly or wrongly) identified this Sir Hildebrand as father of Antonia. Provisionally, we support that view and assume that she was not legitimate.
