BLG1952 identifies the following Thomas as "Gentleman of the Bedchamber and Capt. of the Guard to Henry IV of France" and reports that his wife died "on her passage to England" and that his son Thomas married in Paris whilst his son David is identified by VCH (Leicestershire, vol 5 (Gartree Hundred), Lubenham) as "a French Huguenot". This leads us to suggest that Thomas was based in Paris and was not in fact, as is suggested by Commoners, a lineal descendant of William Papillon (a 1300) who was "one of King Edward I's most devoted servants" and "is supposed to have founded the family of Papillon, of Lubbenham, in Leicestershire". It appears that it was in fact Thomas's son David who established the family at Lubenham.
