Vivian identifies the coat of arms of this family as "Per pale az. and gu., on a cross florry or five martletts sa., a chief or charged with a fleur de lys between two annulets gu." Leaving aside the differences explained under John of Chagford below, there are some items in common with that shown for the family on Walcot01 but the connection, if any, may not have been known. BLG1847 suggested that the family "is of Norman extraction".
