The following shows (de-formatted) most of the data contained in the 'proper' version of this page at it was in early 2012. It is shown here so as to help search engines find our data as some search engines appear to have difficulty finding the data within our 'proper' database pages. Since ours is a dynamic ever-improving site which changes almost every day, it is possible that the 'proper page' has been changed since this 'redirect page' was created.
'Cockburn1' Families covered: Cockburn of Eyemouth, Cockburn in Jamaica, Cockburn of Langton Two or three branches of Cockburns achieved the honour of a baronetcy - the Cockburns 'of that ilk', those of Langton, and possibly those of Ryslaw - whilst those of Ormiston and Clerkington also achieved a position of eminence in Scotland. We have yet to find a reliable source for the Cockburns of Ormiston, Clerkington & Hendlerland but have pulled together a ..zwrkcockburn3.php#topdraft pagea on them. Unfortunately, the reported pedigrees of the other branches show some conflict between sources. There appear to have been significant changes to certain sections of the recorded pedigrees in the early 20th century, presumably following further investigation. We have managed to pull together enough information on the 3 lines of baronets to justify releasing 2 pages into the database but it is a presumption that, for example, the information found in BP1934 should in some cases be followed instead of that given in TCB (and BP1870). We would have supported TCB over BP1934 were it not for the fact that the information in BP1934 was repeated in BP1999 and we presume that the Cockburn family would have ensured by then that Burke's gave the most likely version. However, we remain nervous on this because TCB, which reports that The pedigrees of Cockburn are most contradictory, appears to have made effort to obtain the correct view and to have taken into account some worthy research. Those concerns relate mainly to cockburn2.php#topCockburn2a rather than this page which, apart from doubts about the sons of Sir William who was killed at Flodden, seems reasonably secure. td 16font 2 face=a name=linkhiaAlexander de Cockburn of Carriden (a 1358) td 16 2m.
