It appears that many of the connections of the various branches of this family with the above-mentioned Hamons and between themselves are not known for sure, although there are probably pedigrees around that make various claims for them. The Cheshire Visitations provide some connections but not others and leave the impression that there were a number of cousins living in proximity, that some of the families may have moved villages (for example, both Tatton and Pottington (Puddington) may have been the home of different generations of different branches), and that no-one has been able to sort out it all out. We do not presume to be able to do any better. We start with the main family of Massies of Potington or Puddington as that appears to have been one of the most senior cadet branches. |
