Thanks to a contributor (CV, 22.10.13) for:
(1) advising us that "The Scottish Nation; or the Surnames, Families, Literature, Honours and Biographical History of the People of Scotland" by William Anderson (1863) reports of the following family that "The family name originally was Seton, that of Tytler having been assumed by the ancestor of the family, a cadet of the noble house of Seton, who temp. James IV., in a sudden quarrel at a hunting match, slew a gentleman of the name of Gray, fled to France, and changed his name to Tytler. His two sons returned to Scotland in the train of Queen Mary in 1561, and from the elder the families of Balnain and Woodhouselee descend";
(2) drawing our attention to MGH which enabled us to expand what we had on this family (later expanded further by the support from the Leslie source identified below).
