[Much of what was originally on this page has been transferred to Wales01 & Wales02 to facilitate expansion.]

Cadell or Kadeth, King of South Wales (d 907/9)
m. Fenela (dau of Erpenwald, King of the East Saxons)
1. Hywel Dda, King of Wales (d 948/950)§W§ (F32)
  m. Elen (dau of Llywarch ap Dyfed ap Hyfaidd)
  A. Owain, King of South Wales (d 987)
BLG1952 (Phillips of Cilyblaidd) shows only 1 wife for Owain, Angharad, and so implies that she was mother of all of his children. Griffith indicates that there was an earlier wife, not named, who was mother of Einion, & Cadwallon, leaving Angharad as mother of Meredydd & Llewelyn (Griffith does not mention the other children). Provisionally, we follow BLG1952 in showing Angharad as mother of all of Owain's children but we will probably review this in due course.
  m. Angharad (dau/heir of Llewelyn ap Mervyn ap Rodric Mawr, of Powys)
  i. Einion (dvp c983)
  m. Ellenor (dau of Gwerstan ap Gwaethwed)
Some sources, including 'RoyalData', insert an additional generation here, a Cadell. However, this appears to have been confusion between Einion's son Tewdwr 'Mawr' and the Tudor who is shown below as son of Cadell, Tewdwr's younger brother.
  a. Tewdwr Mawr (Theodor the Great), Prince of South Wales (d 992)
Griffith (p301) identifies Tewdwr's wife as "Nest, d. of Earl of Devonshire" and 'RoyalData' named her Gwenllian (dau of Gwyn ap Rhytherch, Lord of Dyvet) but, provisionally, we follow BLG1952 in identifying her as ...
  m. Gwenth (dau of Kolhwyn ap Tagno)
(1) Rhys, Prince of South Wales (d 1093)§W§ (R2)
m1. Gwladys (dau of Rhiwallon ap Cynfyn, Prince of Powys)
There is some confusion on Rhys's family. Griffith (p301) shows just one wife for him, Gwladys, and then shows 5 children: Gruffydd, Gwenllian, Nesta, Eva & Arddyn. BLG1952 (Philipps of Cilyblaidd) shows two wives with Gwladys as his first wife (by whom he had issue, not named) with Gwenllian as his second wife and mother of King Grufydd. Wikipedia suggests that he had, by Gwladys, 4 sons (Gruffydd, Hywel, Goronwy & Cadwgan) and 1 daughter (Nest).

  m. Gwenlian of Powys (dau of Madoc, Prince of Powys)
  (ii) Gruffydd Hir (younger son)
BLG1952 (Lloyd-Davis of Whittington) reports that Gruffydd-hir was a younger son of Rhys by Gwladys, but Griffith shows him as of this generation.
  (a) Eva
  m. Rhys 'Sais' of Chirk, Whittington, etc
