Reginald Worth of Worth

Various web sites suggest that Reginald was son of Ralph Paynel, son of Ralph Paynel, Sheriff of Yorkshire (who died in the 1120s), but, as reported on PZmisc02, the volume of 'Early Yorkshire Chapters' that is largely dedicated to the Paynel family makes no mention either of Sheriff Ralph having a son called Ralph or of any connection to the Worth family. This does not prove that Reginald was not grandson of Sheriff Ralph but raises sufficient doubt to cause us to leave aside that possibility at least until such time as we find further evidence to corroborate it.

m. Constance (dau of Lord Rivers)

Visitation identifies Constance as "Constance d. of the Lord Rivers, aft. Countess of Devon". This could be interpreted as either that Constance Rivers was later Countess of Devon or that Sir Hugh had a second wife who was Dowager Countess of Devon. Whatever, we have yet to identify this Constance. There was a Lord de Rivers around this time (recorded by BE1883 as de Ripariis) whose family, according to TCP (Rivers), may have been connected to the de Redvers Earls of Devon.
