Families covered:
Dukes of Brittany (Bretagne), Counts of Rennes
|
The
dukedom of Brittany (Bretagne) appears to have moved between several families
that were connected by blood or marriage. The following is an attempt
to pull them together on one page. It starts with an assumption that "XX
of Bretagne" was father of both Nominoe and the father of Salomon
as Salomon is described by GenEU as "a cousin of Duc Erispoe".
NOTE THAT THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE VERSION SHOWN BELOW
THAT HAS BEEN OBTAINED FROM A WEB SITE WHICH PULLS TOGETHER VARIOUS OF
THE KEY PLAYERS IN A DIFFERENT WAY. IN SOME WAYS THE ALTERNATIVE VERSION
IS 'NEATER' AND LOOKS SLIGHLY MORE PLAUSIBLE THAN THE VERSION GIVEN FIRST
BUT, FOR THE SAKE OF CONSISTENCY, WE GIVE PRIORITY TO THE INFORMATION
OBTAINED FROM GENEU. |

Poppa
of Senlis |
|||||||||||||
| This Poppa (definitely granddaughter of Herbert, Count of Vermandois) is often referred to as the Poppa who (in 886) married Rollo 'the Ganger' who conquered Normandy. However, the dates seem to make this impossible. The Poppa who married Rollo was probably the great-aunt of this Poppa. Instead, noting that her father may well also have been 'of Sulzbach' and that this may have been the route whereby the county of Bayeux was confirmed as belonging to Balso, it is thought likely that she was the same person as ... | ||||||||||||||
