  (1) Commoners (vol 2, 'Campbell of Fairfield', p362), supported by BLG1879 ('Campbell of Fairfield'), show the John who was ancestor of the Campbells of Whitehaugh then Fairfield as 4th son of Sir Hugh Campbell of Cesnock by Elizabeth, dau/coheir of George Campbell, Master of Loudoun. See here. We follow BLG1952 in showing him as fitting here. Paterson starts with John except to show him as probably son of Hugh of Whytehaugh (a 1629) before whom came William of Whytehaugh (a 1585). HJHeraldry shows him as younger son of the above George & Jean Muir.
(2) Commoners & BLG1879 support the following except that they show John, 3rd of Whitehaugh, as son rather than younger brother of George, 2nd of Whitehaugh. Paterson does not mention George at all but reports that this John was succeeded by his son John.
