Thomas Hewett of Shenleybury, Hertfordshire
Visitation (1586) shows Thomas's wife (and mother of Robert) as Dorothy Merry with a note that one source names her Margaret. Visitation (1634) shows Thomas's wife (and mother of Robert) as Margaret Button. We presume that Thomas married twice as shown.

BP1934 starts with the following William, identifying him as 'of Dunton'. It was not until we reviewed this section using Nichols (which describes him as shown), that we realised that he was the same person as the William shown on the continuation where, before we moved the information here and using just information compiled from VCH, we used to show that the below-mentioned George 'of Stretton' (father of William & Penelope) was presumed son of Neale son of William (by Frances, niece of George Neale) presumed son of the following William.
William Hewett of Milboke & Ampthill (Bedfordshire), later of Dunton Baaset
m. _ Dickens
1. William Hewett of Dunton Bassett, Sheriff of Lincolnshire (b c1604, d 1662)
William is the first mentioned by VCH although that does not identify him as of Dunton Bassett. VCH does report that the parish of Great Glen comprises 2 townships, Great Glen & Great Stretton, and that it appears that the Hewett family (later?) owned land in both townships and that some were known as 'of Great Glen' whilst others were known as 'of Great Stretton' or 'of Stretton'.
  m. Frances Nele (dau of Edward Nele of Glen Magna, niece of George of Great Glen)
  A. Neale (Nele) Hewett of Great Glen & Dunton Bassett (b c1633, a 1681)
BP1934 identifies Neale's wife Mary Halford as sister of Sir Henry Halford, Bart. However, it seems that there was no such baronet. Nichols (1807) identifes her as daughter of Andrew Halford of Wistow, son of Sir Thomas. However, it looks as though Nichols (1798) was probably correct in identifying her as ...
m. Mary Halford (dau of Andrew Halford, sister of Sir Thomas of Wistow)
  i. George Hewett of Stretton, Sheriff of Leicestershire (b 1664, d 1714)
BP1934 & Nichols (1807) mention George but provides no information about him. The following comes from Nichols (1798) with support from VCH. Note that VCH does not not mention any of his siblings but does mention his uncle George.
