Families covered: Noyes of Andover, Noyes of East Mascalls, Noyes of Hatherdean, Noyes of Southcot, Noyes of Trunkwell, Noyes of Urchfont (Erchfont), Noyes of Weyhill

(1) BLG1862-3 addes "This family, which is of Norman descent, and orginally bore the name of Noye (according to the concurrent tradition of the different branches, was settled at an early period in Wilts and Hants, where it was possessed of considerable estates in the 16th century." BLG1879 repeats the second part of that but omits the first part.
(2) BLG1862-3 & BLG1879 both identify the arms of this family as "Az., three crosses-crosslets in bend arg.". That indicates that it was (or at least believed it was) closely connected to the Noye family shown on Noye1.
(3) BLG1862-3 & BLG1879 both report that the undermentioned Robert of Hatherdean (son of the Robert who d 1614 and brother of William of Urchfont who d 1618) had "a numerous family" and appointed Peter Noyes of Andover as his executor but they do not report what relationship that Peter had to Robert. They then mention his brother William who "also made his cousin Peter Noyes the elder, of Andover, his executor". Because the relationship with Peter Noyes of Andover is not made clear, we suspect that the reference to him being cousin of William should not be interepreted as implying that he was a 1st cousin of William (and Robert). HoP ("John Noyes of Calne"), which refers to Robert & William's uncle John, reports that "he seems not to have been related to the 1614 Member, Peter Noyes" who is the subject of HoP ("Peter Noyes of Andover") who appears (from references to his wife Agnes Noyes) to have been the same person as the executor Peter and also the first of the family mentioned by Visitation. HoP ("Peter Noyes of Andover") identifies that Peter's parents as Peter & Edith. We attempt to pull together these different branches of the family but note that this is speculative and may be revisited in due course.
