  VCH (Leicestershire, vol 4: The City of Leicester, 'The ancient borough: Bromkinsthorpe') reports that "The manor (of Westcotes in Bromkinsthorpe) remained in the hands of the Ruding family until 1821, when Walter Ruding sold it". The following was compiled from various references to the family in various web sites. 'Leicestershire and Rutland Notes & Queries and Antiquarian Gleaner' (vol 1, 1891, found at archive.org), which mentions the following Walter and his wife Jane, suggests that Walter was eldest son of another Walter by Elizabeth.
