Families covered: Damory of Bucknell, Damer of Came, Damer of Chapel, Damer of Came, Damer of Dorchester, Damer of Milton Abbey
BE1883 (Damer of Milton & Dorchester) reports "This family was long seated in the counties of Somerset and Dorset, and claimed descent from William D'Amory, who came into England with the Conqueror."

BE1883 (Amorie) differs in various respects from TCP. BE1883 reports that the father of Lord Roger Damory (who married Elizabeth de Clare) was Gilbert, son of Gilbert. BE1883 also reports that Roger had two brothers: Richard (possibly ancestor of the family of Damer, Earl of Dorchester - see below) and Nicholas, father of Richard, 1st Lord. TCP comments on how Dugdale, who was probably the source used by BE1883, made a mistake in identifying Richard's father as Nicholas and notes that various others later copied that mistake. We follow TCP.

BE1883 (Damer of Milton & Dorchester) starts with the undermentioned Joseph who m. Jane St. Lo. It appears to be accepted that the Damers of Dorchester, etc., were connected to the above Lords Damaury but it seems not to be known exactly how. We provisionally discount the possible connection suggested by BE1883 (Amaurie) (see above) because of the error regarding Nicholas. Hutchins's 'The History and Antiquities of the County of Devon' starts with the undermentioned Sir Richard (d 1376), showing him alongside (but not connected to) the Nicholas who is shown as father of Baron Richard (Roger not being shown). The line from that Sir Richard is also supported by Visitation (J.L. Vivian (1895), Devon, 1531+1564+1620+additions, 'Amory of Chapell', p15). We speculate in showing the connection as follows.

((1)) | George Damory of Bishop's Nympton (d before 06.11.1598, cleric?)

Hutchins identifies the children of George as John, William & Anthony and follows the line of Anthony. Vivian provides the other names & details and follows the line of John.
