James Fraser 'of Ruthven' of Culduthel (d before 1607)
Mackenzie identifies James as "first of Culduthel". BLG1952 identifies him merely as "of Ruthven" and so does not include him in the numberings of the lairds of Culduthel. Consequently, BLG1952 disagrees with Mackenzie on the following numberings.
1. Malcolm Fraser of Ruthven, later of Culduthel (Culdival) (d 1632)
  m. Katharine Baillie (dau of Alexander Baillie of Daunain)
  A. James Fraser of Culduthel (d c1670)
m. (1634) Isabel Fraser ("of Culloden")
  i. Malcolm Fraser, 3rd /4th of Culduthel (a 1709)
Mackenzie shows just one wife for Malcolm, Anne Baillie, showing her as mother of all of his children. BLG1952 shows that the mother of Alexander & John was ...
m1. (c1663) Jean Dunbar (d 09.09.1667, dau of Alexander Dunbar of Boath)
a. Alexander Fraser, 4th/5th of Culduthel (b 1665, d 08.10.1736)
Mackenzie shows just one wife for Alexander, a dau of William Mackenzie 3rd of Belmaduthy, by Elizabeth Mackenzie, showing her as mother of Alexander (the elder) & Malcolm (d unm). BLG1952 shows as below. As Mackenzie does not show Malcolm as a laird of Culduthel so Mackenzie & BLG1952 agree in showing the son Alexander asthe 6th laird.
  m1. Anna Fraser (d c1708)
  (1) Malcolm Fraser, '5th' of Culduthel (d Bergen-op-Zoom 08.1747, Captain)
m. Jane Connelly

m2. Grizel Abercromby (dau of Sir James Abercromby, 2nd Bart)

  m. (1751) Lilias Chisholm (d 23.11.1778, dau of Roderick Chisholm, 21st of Chisholm)
Mackenzie (p590+) shows Alexander being succeeded by Captain James ("served heir to his father in 1774") who d 1783 leaving (by unnamed wife) Colonel James and several other sons. That generation is omitted by BLG1952 so once again disagrees with Mackenzie on the numberings of the lairds.
