Families covered: Le Groos (Le Gros) of Crostwayt (Crostwick or Crosthwaite), Le Gross of Sloley

(1) According to 'Armorial of Jersey' (J. Bertrand Payne, 1859, 'Le Gros', p215+), the name Le Gros "occurs very early in the annals of the Channel Islands' and mentions John Le Gros who was a "Jurat of the Royal Court of (Jersey)' in 1204. Payne identifies the arms of one member of the Jersey family as "Azure, three lions, rampant, or' a chief, argent".
(2) Blomefield identifies the arms of a Sir Reginald le Gross of Sloley (a 1306), who does not appear in the pedigree below, as "quarterly, argent and azure, on a bend sable, three martlets". That indicates that there was no known close connection between the Norfolk-based family covered below and the Le Gros family in Jersey.
