Described on Commoners (vol 4, 'Morris of York, p491) as "niece of Gen. Sir Alured Clarke, governor of the Cape of Good Hope in 1795" was the undermentioned "Miss Griffiths". It is presumed that her mother was one of Sir Alured's 2 sisters. It is noted that, according to Wikipedia, Sir Alured did interrupt his voyage to India at the Cape of Good Hope where he spent time "arranging administrative matters before proceeding to India" but no mention is made of his actually being appointed as Governor of the Cape. Wikipedia ("Frederick Philipse III") names Fredrick Philipse's wife as 'Hariet Griffiths of Rhent, North Wales' (sic).
