Families covered: Scott of Great Barr, Scott of Stourbridge
BP1934 reports that the family "has been seated at Great Barr, in the co. of Stafford, from the reign of Edward I, In 1296, the ancestor of the present baronet. who was in the suite of John Baliol, King of Scotland, when that monarch was detained a prisoner in London, and restrained with the rest of his countrymen from passing to the north of the river Trent under pain of losing their heads, fixed himself as near that stream as the thick forest of Cannock (now stripped of its woods) would allow them." It is noted that the family of the baronets, shown in the middle section of this page, use the arms that were granted to the Thomas Scott of Great Barr who is shown in the upper section. However, the connection between the families is not known.

Because they took the arms that were granted to Thomas above, the following fami;y is presumed to be closely connected to the above family. BP1870 & BP1934 start with John. As the undermentioned Richard of Little Aston is identified (in the section on the Family of Addyes) in Commoners (vol 3. Scott of Stourbridge and Great Barr) as "of the family of Scott, of Barr Hall", which we presume to be associated with Great Barr, we presume (provisionally!) to show that Richard as a younger son of this family, being possibly a younger brother of John.
