Edward Strangwayes of Middlesbrough, Yorkshire
(1) FMG (p940) Shows Edward as son of an unnamed father and brother of Matthew (d Marston Moor) & Richard of Great Fencotes who had 3 children - Edward (m. Mary, dau of Richard Raper, and had 3 daughters: Dinah (m1. _ Norfolk, m2. _ Langstaff), Dorothy (m. Anthony Lister) & Caroline (m. Howsley Freeman on 20.10.1749)) + John (had dau Ann dsp) + Dinah (m. _ Collison). Edward is then shown as father (with no wives named) of Thomas + John + Edward. (2) Commoners shows just one marriage for Edward, to Phelice Ratcliffe, mother of John, Thomas & Edward. Visitation (Dugdale, Yorkshire, 1665, 'Strangways of South House') shows m1. Nelice Radcliffe (sic), mother of Anne, m2. ??, mother of James (had issue). FMG (p631) shows m1. _ Radclif (mother of James who dsp), m2. ?? (mother of Ann). |

Commoners shows just one wife for Thomas, Dorothy Hardcastle. This is supported by BLG1886. FMG notes that "In Burke's peds. the issue is from the 1st wife" but nevertheless shows the issue by a 2nd wife. However, the eldest son John is shown as baptised before the date of death given by Commoners for the 1st wife. Provisionally we show all of the children as of the 1st marriage but it is possible that one or more of the younger children were by the 2nd.
